let me share the basic information that I get from the hakim page

ANTI- RABIES

In one of my duty times in emergency outpatient department treatment, an 11-year-old boy was bitten by a "rabid dog". He died because his family neglected him and did not get his vaccinations sooner. Let me tell you something about Rabies, commonly known as "Rabies".

What is rabies?

Rabies is a disease that is transmitted from animals to humans by means of a virus called rabies.

The reason why it is called rabies is that most of the carriers of the virus are dogs in our area. In addition, bats, horses, and cows can be carriers of the virus. In addition, bats, horses, and cows can be carriers of the virus.

Rabies disease associated with dogs mostly affects developing countries, especially in parts of our country where children do not have enough knowledge about the disease and its prevention.

how it is transmitted?

It can be transmitted from animals infected with the virus, especially from dogs to humans, by biting or scratching, if the saliva from their mouth directly penetrates the skin, or if there are fresh skin wounds on our body. Especially if the bitten or scratched neck is above the neck, the virus is very close to the central nervous system and can quickly reach the brain and cause death.

Rabies is thought to be transmitted theoretically from person to person by the bite of an infected person.

What are the symptoms?

If a person is exposed to the virus, the incubation period can last from 3 weeks to 3 months.

Symptoms include tingling, numbness, fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, muscle pain, fear, excessive salivation, difficulty swallowing, hallucinations, confusion, fear of water (hydrophobia), insomnia, and worse. It can lead to coma and then death.

The odds of survival for someone who begins to show symptoms are very small.

How can we prevent it?

Vaccination if we have domestic or wild animals

Another thing that we must not forget is that if we are bitten by an unvaccinated animal or if we have any doubts, we should immediately consult a medical professional and take post-exposure prophylaxis.

What about treatment?

There is no treatment for rabies. The reason is that if the rabies virus enters our body, it hides and cannot be cured even by anti-viral.

Therefore, if there is any kind of wound on our body, the only options are to treat it correctly and if we are vulnerable, go to the medical center without delay and get vaccinated against the virus.

In general, rabies is a fatal disease that cannot be ignored.
