uterine fibroids\ a uterine mass(swelling)

Uterine fibroids

Although they have a correct medical terminology definition, I think it works with the character of Uterine fibroids.

Uterine fibroids are tumors that arise from the middle part of the uterus or from the uterine muscle.

Usually, when we say a tumor, we think of something bad and cancerous, but these uterine fibroids are not cancerous and the chance of turning into cancer is extremely low, and studies show that only one out of 580 women treated with this tumor will turn into cancer.

Uterine fibroids are types of tumors that occur during childbirth, especially in women between the ages of 30 and 40. Because these tumors are usually painless, up to 70% of women are thought to have this tumor on their uterus.

Why does this tumor occur??

Although there is no definite study as to why uterine fibroids occur, the hypotheses show that the muscle cells with genetic problems in the uterine muscle multiply uncontrollably when the hormone estrogen affects them and grow into tumors.

What are the symptoms of this tumor?

Most of the time they have no symptoms and they are tumors that can be found suddenly during an ultrasound examination for another disease. But beyond that, women who feel the pain may show the following symptoms:-

     -Menstrual change
         * If the period has passed longer than it should
         * Menstrual pain
*Anemia symptom:- Caused by excessive bleeding

-Lumbar pain and lower back pain, especially during intercourse

-Refuse to urinate or urinate quickly

    - Dry stools, and abdominal pain

    - Noticing a slowly increasing swelling on the stomach

    -Frequent miscarriages

    -Preventing pregnancy

When do these uterine masses/tumors need treatment?

If they usually do not have any pain, they do not need to be treated with medicine or surgery because their size shrinks and decreases over time when a woman gives birth or stops menstruating. But a woman:

    - Menstrual irregularity caused by the tumor, if it is abundant and causes anemia

    - If she has severe pain (related to the tumor)

-If the tumor is very large

    - If pregnancy is prevented or if pregnancy occurs and is the reason for abortion (if all other things that prevent pregnancy or cause abortion are ruled out)

 Treatments that can be given?

*Drug treatment:- This treatment is given to control the amount of blood flowing.

    * surgical management/Operation:- This is the treatment of removing the tumor by operation; In addition, there may be different types of operation (there are some that do not work in our country).

*Hysterectomy:- This operation is performed when the woman has finished giving birth or if there is heavy bleeding during the operation to remove the tumor, hysterectomy is an option that saves the woman's life.
